Creativity and Freshness in Preaching
|
Non-Credit: C4
MA credit: PM -715
DMin credit: PM - 811
|
Facilitator: Dr. Jeffrey Arthurs
This course focuses more on the art of homiletics than the science of exposition. It centers more on innovative and attractive means of sermon delivery while seeking to remain true to the biblical text. While PM 8 0 — The Effective communicator — is not a prerequisite for this seminar, the assumption is that participants understand the appropriate methods for bridging from the exegeted text to the sermon. This seminar should prove to be invaluable for those who feel they are “stuck in a rut” in their preaching.
GOALS:
- To be able to use a variety of creative forms and structures in their preaching.
- To be able to fashion the physical setting for maximum communication effectiveness.
- To be able to develop a positive atmosphere and motivation in a message.
WHO WILL BENEFIT:
- Every pastor desiring to stay relevant to more contemporary forms of preaching.
- Young men preparing for ministry who have had training in the science of homiletics and wish to develop greater facility in the art of preaching.
- Any layperson who has had training in preparing biblical sermons and lessons, and who wishes to become aware of a greater range of possible delivery forms.
Important note about this class: This course can be taken not-for-credit or for credit from Grace Seminary. ALL participants in this class must have some experience in preaching and be familiar with the development of a sermon as disclosed in the following book: Biblical Preaching, Revised Edition, Haddon Robinson, Baker, 2001. If this class is taken for credit, it can be used either for Doctoral credit or for Masters credit in the seminary. Class time for MA and DMin are the same, however pre and post-course requirements will differ. Click HERE to download the class prospectus (includes reading requirements).
